Andrew Snelling

Andrew Snelling is a full time “creationist scientist” with the Institute for Creation Research in the USA. He is notorious for his authorship of a professional paper in the 1980s on geology when he stated that strata were millions of years old whilst pushing elsewhere creationist crapola that the world is 6,000-10,000 years old.

He is satirised in the Enjoy Yourselves section of this web site. Further details of his apparent professional misconduct can be found at http://home.austarnet.com.au/stear/snelling.htm

Snelling’s first degree in geology is from the University of New South Wales in Australia and his PhD, on uranium mineralisation, is from the University of Sydney. According to the ICR’s web site he has published some 20 professional papers in mainstream “secular” journals as well as that published in creationist journals and his creationist books. His position at the ICR is associate professor of geology and is part of the “faculty” of the organisation (which, amazingly, awards degrees).

Snelling has from time to time “lectured” on “ scientific creationism” in the UK including within the framework of Genesis Agendum and with Ken Ham and Phillip Johnson (of the Discovery Institute). See, for example, the report at http://www.biblicalcreation.org.uk/introductory_articles/bcs147.html and a list of venues in 2004 at http://www.darwinreconsidered.org/tour_dates_venues.asp

Snelling has been very closely associated with Answers in Genesis where he edited the organisation’s technical journal in the 1980s. He left Answers in Genesis in Australia to join the ICR in the USA. It is not known if this reflected a falling out with the abrasive Ken Ham.

(According to Ron Numbers, Snelling left the Creation Science Fooundation, as Answers in Genesis Australia was then known, because he fell out with its head, Carl Wieland.)

Some of Snelling’s work has been critically examined at http://www.island.net/~rjbw/CreationScience.html .
