Miscellaneous Intelligence

In our extensive research on CI4D, we came across some very oddball connections. For example it's privacy policy given on its web site links to http://www.davidjeremiah.org/site/ (the link has since been removed). This is an American baptist (SBC), biblical fundamentalist who runs the church formerly headed by Tim LaHaye (co-author of the Dominionist Left Behind series of books). Jeremiah is a rapture readyite. Such extremists typical are staunch advocates of the state of Israel because they they think it will play an central and genocidal role in the return of Christ. A bio of Jeremiah can be found on the Rapture Ready website at http://www.raptureready.com/who/David_Jeremiah.html.

The Rapture Ready web site is the prime source of material for the web site “Fundies say the Darndest Things” (www.fstdt.com). Jeremiah believes that petroleum comes from the rotting vegetation of the Garden of Eden and this explains why there is so much oil in the Middle East. He's also paranoid about The New World Order.

Jeremiah is, in practice, an astute businessman who has made a lot of money over many years. His church, for example, tithes. He' a major evangelical broadcaster (a method of moving the collection plate around a lot more people a lot more often) and an author of numerous books.

Friends in high places in the Democratic Unionist Party

Nelson McCausland is a DUP politician and Minister for Culture in the Stormont Assembly in Northern Ireland . He's very active in pushing the cause of creationsm in the province - see, for example, our 2010 report Caleb Foundation Part 2?.

McCausland's blog entry on the Centre for Intelligent Design (http://theministerspen.blogspot.com/2010/10/centre-for-intelligent-design.html) defends Intelligent Design “The opening of the centre and the visit by Professor Behe provide an opportunity for a calm and reasoned consideration of Intelligent Design. However the initial and irrational reaction from some sections of the media suggest that in some circles there is no appetite for reasoned consideration.”

Good grief, a claim of "irrational reaction" from a member of Ian Paisley's political party! It's now all the fault of irrational and unnamed media. This man is an Oxford University graduate? One wonders what help a friend in high places will give to local boy Norman Nevin and his pals in Glasgow.

Irony would be a fine thing!
